<review>1 Wine Dude Blog: Lionheart Wines 07 McGinley Vineyard Rousanne (wow... really?). There going for overall balance (my kind of winemakers! :-). Stirred on the lees in nuetral French oak barrels. The nose is OFF THE CHART! Kiwi, tropical fruits, and flowers all over the place. Totally killer.</review>
			<review>Able Grape Blog: 2007 Roussanne, Lionheart Wines. M, youthful, peach, floral, hints of wax and lychee, and a creamy note (100% malo, says winemaker). Pretty nose. Full bodied, with medium-high acidity, medium-plus alcohol, creamy mouthfeel, and a pleasantly long, grapefruity finish. Dig this. The winemaker, Leon Glover, said he's going for a "distinctive, bold wine", and I'd say he succeeded.</review>
			<review>Dr. Xeno Blog: 2007 Lionheart Wines Santa Barbara County McGinley Vineyard Roussane. C: lighter golden straw. N: Great pear and peach, followed by some wonderful pineapple and blossoms of florals. Some creaminess and lemon custard here too. P: Full-bodied with intense pineapple flavors that seem sweet and yet the wine finishes nicely crisp with a little cream underneath and further tropical fruit from the nose. Very good! </review>
			<review>Vineyard Adventures Blog: Lionheart Wines 100% Rousanne - Tropical fruit - pineapple, good acidity, light handed oak, on lees for 10 months. Best pairing according to the winery is hawaiian pizza. I would tend to agree. The flavors match with the pineapple and the acidity is strong enough to be cleansing to the palate.</review>
			<review>Wine Peeps Blog: 2007 Lionheart Wines McGinley Vineyard Roussanne (Santa Barbara County, California): Lime, pear, and floral aromas. Pineapple and lemon also come through on the palate. Crisp acidity and a bit creamy. Good mouthfeel. Smooth finish. Very refreshing. Quality: 4 stars (out of 5) </review>
			<review>88 points - The Rhone Report: The 2007 Lionheart Wines Roussanne McGinley Vineyard has deep, rich aromas of vanilla bean, marzipan and ripe lemon and orange nuances. The palate is medium to full bodied with a soft, mouth filling texture, admirable balance and a clean, long finish. Drink this full flavored white over the next 2 to 3 years.</review>
		</reviews>
		<winery_notes>

The warm afternoons and cool evening at McGinley Vineyard allow for a long growing season resulting in finely balanced fruit with rich flavors and excellent acidity. The wine is barrel fermented and aged in a neutral French oak with 100% malolactic fermentation for an excellent creamy mouth feel.

The Roussanne is made with a delicious twist: lemon-green color; pronounced tropical aromas of key lime pie, pineapple, apricot, orange blossoms, pear, floral and Meyer lemon; flavors build upon the aromas adding oranges over a balanced acidity and creamy mouth-filling texture reminiscent of a cool dessert on a hot summer night.

Leon recommends serving this wine with grilled fish and pineapple kabobs, tropical fruit compote, pork dishes, Hawaiian pizza or key lime pie. It is ready to drink now with potential to age 2 to 4 years.

This blend of Marsanne (65%), Rousanne (30%), and Viognier (5%) is an elegant, unique, almost "ethereal" wine - a secret to share with intimate friends on a warm summer day. Aromas of mineral, green fruit (green apple, kiwi, honeydew melon, and Asian pear), floral, sweet spices and matching flavors with the addition of grapefruit, vanilla and hazelnut are layered over a firm acidity core mellowed by aging in 25% new French oak for 9 months allowing the flavors to marry and develop enjoyable complexity. Bottle aging will improve the wine over the next 2 to 4 years.

Leon recommends it with shellfish, salad and vinaigrette dressing, pasta primavera, or something a little bit spicy!

			<review>92 points - A distinctive wine: The first impression is of acidic dryness, which stimulates the palate. then the flavors kick in, and they're opulent in peaches, pineapples, golden apricots, honeysuckle flowers, vanilla custard and cinnamon. -- May 2009, Wine Enthusiast</review>
			<review>Bronze medal - 2009 San Francisco Chronicle Wine competition.</review>
			<review>Gabes View Blog - January 9, 2009: Honeysuckle, lemon, pear and a host of spice notes such as white pepper and nutmeg burst from this wines effusive nose. There is a persistent core of fruit throughout the palate which is lush, soft and mouth filling. Lemon and orchard fruit flavors are the most notable along with some pineapple and guava. The finish is ever so lightly creamy with some hints of nut and vanilla. The wines acidity is excellent and this will be a great compliment to spicy Thai cuisine, as one example. It drinks phenomenally on its own and I wouldn’t hesitate to let this wine stand by itself to impress your guests.

What I like best about this Rhone style blend is that it tastes a lot more complex than its $32 price tag. This boutique wine is a well made gem. While not made for long term aging this offering will improve for a couple of years and hold for a couple after that, certainly longer than the average California white.

			</review>
			<review>88 points - The Rhone Report, November 2009: The 2007 Lionheart Wines The Angel's Share Saralee's Vineyard is a blend of 66% Marsanne, 33% Roussanne and a splash of Viognier and is a unique, interesting wine that has perfumed aromatics. Orange blossom, mango, vanilla and pineapple aromas and flavors all show up and the wine is medium tofull bodied with a rich texture, decent acidity and an enjoyable, long finish. All in all, this is a ripe, round white to drink over the next yaer or two.</review>

This blend of Marsanne (66%), Rousanne (33%), and Viognier (1%) is an elegant, unique, almost "ethereal" wine - a secret to share with intimate friends on a warm summer day.

Pronounced aromas of lemon, lime, mineral, white floral, hint of black tea, pear, kiwi, sweet spices and matching flavors with the addition of hazelnut with a creamy texture are layered over a firm acidity core mellowed by barrel aging in nearly neutral French oak for 8 months allowing the flavors to marry and develop enjoyable complexity. 50% of the Marsanne did not go through malolactic fermentation to help retain the natural acidity. The wine was bottled early to retain the bright and lovely fruit characteristics. The wine will improve in bottle over the next 2 to 3 years.

Leon recommends it with crab cakes, tequila chicken, shellfish, avocado chutney, seafood salad with viniagrette dressing, ceviche, or something a little bit spicy!

			<review>"87 points - This mountain vineyard is famous for reds on steriods, and this is indeed a big wine. It's highly extracted and superripe, with blackberry, cherry, licorice, beef jerky and cola flavors that have a slightly funky, barnyardy edge. Feels a little rustic in its tannins. -- S.H." Wine Enthusiast, July 2008</review>
		</reviews>
		<winery_notes>

The wine holds true to the classic Syrah characteristics, expresses the local terroir with a clear, deep ruby color tinted with purple. Aromas of violets, raspberries, smoke, black cherries with hints of cedar, vanilla, perfume and red currants. The taste follows the aromas with the addition of plum, milk chocolate and a medium-length herbal, tart finish over a soft tannin core. Ready to drink now with the potential to age several years, this wine is best served with any of the following dishes: lamb, barbequed red meats, duck, prime rib, and fatty aged cheeses

			<review>87 points - The Rhone Report: Very bright and spicy with underbrush, subtle volatile notes, leather, meat and floral aromas, the 2006 Lionheart Wines Syrah is medium bodied in the mouth with a smooth, silky, light texture, medium concentration and a medium finish.</review>
			<review>84 points - May 2009, Wine Enthusiast</review>
		</reviews>
		<winery_notes>

This Syrah is a blend of Syrah from three vineyards - Stophlman and White Hawk vineyards in Santa Barbara county with a bit of Teldeschi Dry Creek Valley. The wine is fruiter and jammier than the 2005 Eaglepoint Ranch Syrah. The Syrah from the Stophlman and Teldeschi vineyards were both co-fermented with 3% viognier to enhance the aromatics and help with color fixation.

The wine is a bright, opaque ruby/violet with ruby rim color. The wine has a clean pronounced intensity nose with aromas of black olive, jam, raspberry, baking spices(clove, allspice), orange peel, mineral, dark cherry, earth, smoke, hint of coffee/espresso, vanilla, violets, and pomegranate. The wine has a tart medium+ acidity, medium alcohol, medium soft, fine-grained tannins with medium+ intensity flavors matching the aromas, and espresso with orange peel on the medium+ finish.

			<review>93 points and 4 hearts, 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon Shootout -- Intense berry almost candylike aromas. The palate is meaty with oak accents. The finish is loaded with tannins. This is a young wine that will age beautifully. Enjoy this with lamb burgers or a grilled ham and gruyere sandwich with sweet and hot mustard.</review>
			<review>90 points -- Here's a smooth, polished and rewarding Cabernet Sauvignon. It shows the structure and finesse you expect from Napa Valley, and is not one of those modern fruit bombs despite rich flavors of blackberries, currants and cassis. Good now and through 2010, at least -- May 2009, Wine Enthusiast</review>
		</reviews>
		<winery_notes>

This is a blend of Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon from the Shikon, Vineyard X and Stagecoach vineyards plus a small amount of Napa Valley Merlot. Shikon vineyard provides powerful, fruit aromatics while the Stagecoach vineyard provides excellent mid-palate and ageworthy refined tannic backbone. Vineyard X provides expressive, ripe fruit with an affinity for new oak aging.

The wine is easily identifiable as a Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon due to the opaque ruby/black color and medium+ intensity nose of espresso, black olives, black and red currants, tobacco, plum, dark cherry, violets, blue berry and a hint of green leafiness. On the palate, the wine shows high acidity, medium+ length, medium+ fine-grained tannins with an pronounced intensity flavors of: black olive, espresso, black currant, white and black cracked pepper, tobacco, warm spices and an espresso red fruit finish.

Roaring Red is a proprietary value blend of quality red wines for your everyday meals. The blend will vary from year to year depending on each vintages variation. This year's blend includes Cabernet Sauvignon from four vineyards and Syrah from two vineyards. It is an easy drinking red wine best served with Mediterranean food over the next couple of years.

      		<review>91 points -- Medium-deep ruby color; smoky, berry and black cherry aromas; deep and rich with black cherry and berry flavors, cinnamon and baking spice notes; some sweet oak and tannins; good structure and balance; long finish. Deep, rich and complex Pinot with quite a bit of nuance. Will pair up well with pork or lamb. -- May 2009, Pinot Report</review>
      		<review>89 points -- Lionheart was a new winery for me. It made a Very Good first impression in a blind flight of Pinots I recently covered. This very bright candy apple red wine opens with an attractive strawberry and cranberry like bouquet. On the palate, this wine is medium bodied, balanced, and savory with fresh raspberry flavors. There were notes of spice throughout as well. The finish is dry and lingers slightly. This very easy going Pinot is quite quaffable and would pair nicely with lasagna. Enjoy - Ken; KensWineGuide.com</review>

	    <winery_notes>

We love Pinot Noir as it a highly versatile food wine! The best Pinot Noir is made from a blend of many clones to get layered complexity in the wine. We cofermented clones 115 with 828 and 667 with 777 to give balanced blending components resulting in a wine with excellent fruit, tannins and acidity.

This Pinot Noir is an opaque violet and ruby color; intense aromas of candied rose petals, smoke, earth, boysenberry, black and red cherry, currants, raspberry, allspice; flavors integrated with soft tannins matching the aromas adding blue berry with a long tart finish of strawberry and red cherry.

Leon recommends serving this wine with sage rubbed turkey, duck burgers, braised lamb, and Osso Bucco. It is ready to drink now but will improve with bottle age for the next 3 to 5 years.

      <review>87 points - The Rhone Report, November 2009: A ripe, lush wine, the 2007 Lionheart Wines Syrah Dry Creek Valley has lot of plum, briar, earth and chocolate aromas on the nose. The palate is medium bodied with a soft, upfront feel, lots of sweet fruit and an enjoyable finish. This should be a crowd pleaser to drink over the next 3 to 5 years.</review>

This wine is a blend of Ray Teldeschi's vineyard syrah, Dry Creek Valley (89%), Eaglepoint Ranch Vineyard Grenache (6%), Catie's Corner Vineyard, Russian River Valley (3%) and Eaglepoint Ranch Vineyard Petite Sirah (2%).

The wine is an opaque ruby with slight purple core transitioning to a purple rim. The medium intensity nose has aromas of floral (white), black cherry, black olive, red cherry, strawberry, cracked black pepper and warm spices. The palate has medium+ acidity, medium+ fine-grained tannins, long length with complex, layered flavors matching the aroma plus warm spices on entry, cracked white pepper and pomegranite and on the finish. It is a very pleasant mouth-watering mouthfeel just begging to be had with a rich meat-based dish.

    <winery_notes>

The fruit for this wine came from the very sandy White Hawk Vineyard in Santa Barbara County. The vines had to work extra hard resulting in concentrated and pure fruit rarely seen outside of Tuscany. A small amount (3%) of Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon from the Young-Inglewood Vineyard was blended in to enhance the finish, aromas / flavor complexity and overall balance.

The wine is a deep ruby/purple with pronounced aroma intensity of candied rose petals, violets, blueberry, and cherry (red, dark and sour) made in the Super Tuscan tradition. The palate shows medium tannins, medium+ length, high acidity and flavors matching the aromas with the addition of cranberry, red currants and cracked peppercorns on the finish. The wine will be ready to drink at release with peak development 1 to 2 years after release.

It is an excellent wine best served with tomato-based Italian pasta dishes, wild boar, peppercorn flank steak and BBQ chicken. The wine shows that California can grow excellent Sangiovese!

    <winery_notes>

This is a blend of Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon from Vineyard X managed by Andy Beckstoffer and Young-Inglewood Vineyard located just north of the Rubicon Estate on the valley floor. Vineyard X provides expressive, ripe fruit with an affinity for new oak aging. The Young-Inglewood fruit was fermented in two lots (a high-temperature fermentation for tannin and color extraction as well as a cool fermentation for good typicity) to provide complex blending elements for the finished wine. The Cabernet Sauvignon was aged 23 months in new French barrels for solid and refined oak tannins. The wine is a near classic Bordeaux-style blend of 84% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Yountville Malbec, 5% Napa Valley Petite Verdot, and 2% Oakville district Merlot.

The wine is easily identifiable as a Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon due to the opaque ruby color and intensity nose of herbs, red (currant and plum), ripe black fruits (cassis, black olive, cherry), milk chocolate, oak and vanilla. On the palate, the flavors match the aromas with the addition of blackberry with a long baking spice and cocoa finish over fine-grained, “dusty” tannins. The wine is ready to drink now, improve with bottle age and can be age for 5 to 7 years.

Leon recommends this with prime rib, beef with peppercorn sauce, hearty beef, lamb or bison stews.

This wine is a delicious blend of Ray Teldeschi's vineyard Syrah, Dry Creek Valley (55%), Napa Valley and Washington State Cabernet Sauvignon (23%), Napa Valley Malbec (9%), Contra Costa County Mourvedre (6%), Napa Valley Petite Verdot (5%) and Napa Valley Merlot (2%).

The wine is a bold, highly approachable, easily paired, ready-to-drink, fruity blended wine from Northern California. It has opaque ruby color; intensity aromas of plum, black cherry, cassis, tobacco, fruitcake, and cigar box; the mouth-coating, concentrated, layered flavors build on the aromas with a long-lasting pomegranate and orange peel finish over soft, chewy tannins.

Leon recommends this wine with lamb stew, braised beef ribs, beef bourguignon, and wild boar. It is ready to drink now and will age for 3 to 6 years.

We love Pinot Noir as it a highly versatile food wine! The best Pinot Noir is made from a blend of many clones to get layered complexity in the wine. We cofermented clones 115 with 828 and 667 with 777 from two vineyards to give balanced blending components resulting in a wine with excellent fruit, tannins and acidity. The wine was aged in 33% new French oak for 14 months.

This Pinot Noir is an opaque ruby with hints of violet color; intense aromas of baking spices, cherry (red and black), violets/floral, mélange of berries including strawberry, raspberry, blackberry, cranberry; concentrated flavors integrated with fine tannins matching the aromas adding mineral, white pepper, hint of cola with a long tangy black fruit finish.

Leon recommends serving this wine with sage rubbed turkey, duck burgers, and roasted herb squab. It is ready to drink now but we recommend 12 months in bottle before opening and will develop with bottle age for the next 5 to 7 years.

This blend of Marsanne (50%), Roussanne (48%), and Viognier (2%) is a delicate, unique, almost "ethereal" wine – a secret to share with intimate friends on a warm summer day.

Aromas of green apple, yellow apple, mineral, white floral, pear, sweet spices and a hint of black tea and matching flavors with the addition of apricot with a creamy texture are layered over a balanced acidity mellowed by barrel aging in nearly neutral French oak for 8 months allowing the flavors to marry and develop enjoyable complexity. 100% of the Roussanne did not go through malolactic fermentation to help retain the natural acidity. The wine was bottled early to retain the bright and lovely fruit characteristics. The wine will improve in bottle over the next 2 to 3 years.

Leon recommends it with crab cakes, Waldorf Salad, shellfish, apple/pear tart, seafood salad with vinaigrette dressing, or something a little bit spicy!
